estate sale companies: is a subscription worth it? the math

Published September 1, 2026 by EstateEntry

Line tools cost either per-sale ($5–$15) or a monthly subscription ($29–$99). Let's run the honest math.

Cost side: what a tool saves in one sale

  • Staff queue-management hours: typically 3-5 hours per busy sale — one employee standing by the front door managing a line list.
  • Dispute resolution: roughly 30 minutes per sale of "I was first" conversations, at a minimum.
  • No-shows: roughly 15-30% of positions at high-demand sales without a release mechanism.
  • Data: who showed up, who was a no-show, how many conversions — impossible with paper.

What that's worth

Three staff hours at $20/hour = $60. Excluding no-show value and disputes, that's about the cost of a Standard line-management subscription for the whole month — before counting saved staff exhaustion.

When a subscription isn't worth it

  • You run 1–2 sales annually for family: use the per-sale option or a free trial first.
  • Your town drag is a 20-shopper crowd. A sheet of paper works fine.
  • Your shoppers are entirely offline: digital tooling won't help a population that already doesn't shop online.

When it's exactly the right buy

  • You run 3+ sales monthly in a regional market.
  • No-shows or crowd conflicts have cost you a customer — even once.
  • You are planning to scale past solo operation and want the team-logins and analytics.

For those: the numbers we already hear

Standard $39/mo for unlimited sales is roughly $13/sale with 3 sales/month, before analytics. Compare against the cost of one lost company relationship because someone interfered with the line.
